10 things about me...
Alright... here we go with an inaugural blog post. I figured I'd start with a 10 things about me post to help you learn a little bit more about me. A little bit more about the inner workings of this complex mind that is Melanie.
1. I can recognize any actor/actress at a glance. This comes in handy working in entertainment. In fact, one of the reasons I obtained my current job is because I passed a celebrity identifying test during my interview. I was given photos and was supposed to name everyone who appeared in the photo and I also was given a list of names and was supposed to name one of their most popular credits. The woman interviewing me (who is now my boss) stared at me for a full minute after I finished because she was so dumbfounded at how well I did on the quiz. I even recognize small actors on basic cable shows and movies. I feel like it's my duty to let everyone feel like a star. :D
2. I have played weekly bar trivia every Wednesday for two solid years now. I've made a lot of friends at trivia and it's something that I look forward to every time. Because of my tenacity and my smart ass mouth, I eventually ended up becoming a trivia host myself. (Shameless promotion: come play weekly trivia with me at 33 Taps Hollywood and Vine! Mondays at 8PM!)
3. I appeared on an episode of Whose Line Is It Anyway? I was selected from the audience to play "Sound Effects" with Colin Mochrie and Ryan Stiles. Luckily, I didn't make too much of an ass of myself. You can watch the clip below.
4. My heart belongs to music. I grew up singing and performing in choirs, talent shows, and musicals until college. If you're daring, you can check out my old YouTube channel circa 2009. These days, my singing is done in my car, with my friends, or on the karaoke stage.
5. It's very unfortunate, but I am known for falling asleep during Presidential speeches. In high school, a few select students were invited to listen to former Pres. Bill Clinton speak. I fell asleep and was caught by my principal who literally stared at me with dagger eyes. I fell asleep watching a play about Abraham Lincoln's assassination at Ford's Theatre (the room where it happened [Hamilton reference #2 on this website ayyyy!]). I've visited Plains, Georgia, the home of former Pres. Jimmy Carter and saw him speak numerous times. I'm positive I fell asleep at least once. In 2014, Pres. Barack Obama spoke at the commencement ceremony for UCI, my alma mater. I fell asleep then too as evidenced below... I don't know why. It just happens ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
6. My number one favorite food in the world? CHEESE. It's so multi- faceted. There are so many varieties. You can enjoy it savory or sweet. It can be eaten cold or hot. It's so sexy when it's melted... Excuse me while I go wipe off my drool. Cheese. I love it.
7. I have an obsession with lipstick. I'm no beauty blogger, but I do have an unhealthy amount of lipstick and I don't believe this obsession will be going away anytime soon.
8. I spend a lot of hours on YouTube watching video essays. I graduated with a double major in Film and Media Studies & Drama. I love watching video essays that really analyze and explore film and television at a deeper level. Some of my favorite are Every Frame a Painting, Movies with Mikey, and Chez Lindsay. If you have the time, definitely check them out.
9. I want to travel. One day it will happen. I will go to Prague, Santorini, New Zealand, Southeast Asia, and many more. There are so many things I want to see, learn, and do. Adventure is out there!
10. My ultimate bucket list item: BE ON JEOPARDY.
If you've made it this far down the post, I admire your perseverance. So yea... those are 10 facts about me. Until next time!
